The body of a ceramic tile is expandable since it absorbs water and it might come loose from its base layer as a result of its absorbing water from the mortar beneath it. Ceramic tiles must therefore be soaked in water before installing to prevent them absorbing water from their binder layers. Always drain the tiles to remove excess water before installing.
